ARBOmedia focusing on online marketing
Advertising marketing company to concentrate in particular on activities in the growth markets of Eastern and Southern Europe.
Munich, 26 November 2008 – Munich-based ARBOmedia AG is to focus its concentration in future particularly on the marketing of online advertising in the countries of Eastern and South-Eastern Europe. This was announced yesterday by the new CEO, Thomas Landolt, at the company’s shareholders’ meeting. At the end of September – still under the former man-agement – ARBOmedia had sold the Czech television marketing company which up to that point had been the company’s largest field of business. While turnover in this segment had stagnated or even declined, however, the segment “Internet” had grown very strongly of late. In the 2007 financial year, ARBOmedia boosted turnover in the field of online marketing by 108% to EUR 9.0 million. During the first half of 2008 turnover reached EUR 9.1 million, an increase of 156% year over year.
“We see good growth perspectives in ARBOmedia’s new key field of business for the future, too“, explains Landolt. “We are currently building in particular on ARBOmedia’s good market position in Poland. In addition, online marketing in the Czech Republic and Romania is very promising.
In the 2007 financial year, ARBOmedia reported a loss for the year of EUR 6.5 million. The management reacted to this with a comprehensive restructuring process as part of which the company introduced i.a. a new competence centre structure and initially divested itself of marginal activities. “This process has not yet been completed,” said Landolt. “A further streamlining of the portfolio cannot be ruled out at the present time.”
Reviewing the course of business to date in the 2008 financial year, Landolt warned of any excessive optimism, despite the fact that the figures for the first half-year showed the first signs of a turnaround.
For the first six months of 2008, ARBOmedia had reported a profit of EUR 1.0 million follow-ing a loss of EUR 0.8 million for the corresponding period of the previous year. This had been favoured, however, by the fact that the economic development in the most important countries for ARBOmedia had still been very good, despite the international financial crisis. “Particularly in view of the continuing effects of the financial crisis and their ever more serious impacts for the real economy it is still too early in my opinion to be able to assess whether the restructuring measures initiated by the previous management will be sufficient,” ex-plained Landolt.
